Move 2 IncluDE is focused on making it possible for people with physical and cognitive challenges to participate in local races by giving them access to adaptive running chairs.
history
Move 2 IncluDE started with one belief: everyone deserves to be included. It was this tenet that drove the creation of Move 2 IncluDE’s predecessor, Fusion Inclusion, which began in 2016 as an offshoot of another project also focused on inclusion.
Inclusion running offers many benefits, but it has traditionally been an exception at most races. Many people, young and old, want to be included but their physical limitations keep them from participating.
Fusion Inclusion’s founders, Steve Sinko and Nic DeCaire, believed inclusion running offered a way to unite communities by spotlighting the special bond that develops between the person in the adaptive chair and the person running with them. (You can read on the Team Hoyt website about one of the most famous duo teams, Dick and Rick Hoyt, who ran the Boston Marathon 32 times and created the adaptive chairs we currently use.)
who we are
In 2019, Fusion Inclusion was rebranded as Move 2 IncluDE, a stand-alone nonprofit organization recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. An all-volunteer board of directors was created, comprised of Steve Sinko, president; Kelly Bothum, vice president; Melanie Akers-Aube, secretary; Marylou Weeks Reith. treasurer; Tim Sinko; Ashley Barnas; Dawn DelleDonne; Kattie Mackie; and Kim Scarberry.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, Move 2 IncluDE maintains a fleet of 10 chairs for use at local races. Our chairs are personalized for the organizations that have sponsored them: Move 2 IncluDE, Buffalo Wild Wings, UD Health at the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences, Celebrate Love Always, Independence Prosthetics and Orthotics, Tower Hill School, Ursuline Academy, Mary Campbell Center, Hopkins & Sons and Colonial School District.
